Quick and Easy Bento

Kidlet has a fairly simply bento today. I wanted to showcase the amazingness of my very first loaf of homemade bread. So he gets a peanut butter sandwich with star cheese, grapes, apple bunny, and apple slice. I think I will do a decorative apple slice tutorial some time next week.

And here it is in all it's delicious glory. This is the 100% Whole Wheat sandwich bread from Artisan Bread in 5 Minutes a Day. Now, this took me all day to make so the name of the book is misleading. They count the 5 minutes as "active" prep. Well, granted it was very fast dough to whip up and so simple. But with the resting and rising and such it does take up a day. The only reason it suprised me is that I have been hearing about this book from other bloggers for so long that I had this picture in my head of them whipping up bread and having it piping hot and on the table in just 5 minutes. Silly, I know but the reality shocked me nonetheless.

I have waited for this book for a long time because my library had a hefty waiting list and I prefer to check out a book before buying it. This is definately on my buy list now! There are a lot of recipes I will enjoy trying out.

Baseball Bento

Summer is almost here and we are gearing up for some fun! Kidlet will be going to his very first baseball game this summer. What? My 8 year old has never been to a baseball game? I know, I am a horrible mother. But come on, his attention span is only just beginning to be ready for organized sports. I just never had any desire to wrestle a wiggly child out in a hot stadium.

Today is a peanut butter and jelly baseball with cheese laces on top of pretzels. Next to the sandiwch are cucumber, orange, and apples. Yum!

The Doctor

So this isn't a bento for the Kidlet but it is pretty cool. I actually made this one for my mom to take to work. We've been seriously missing our Doctor Who fix lately!
She won't let me cut her sandwiches in to shapes or use lettuce or anything "funky" so I am limited in the cuteness. However, I think the little Tardis makes it perfect!

Pokemon Bento

So I am really excited about this bento and Kidlet was too! Pokemon is a recurring theme but I wanted to do someting a little different. I've seen many pokeballs in bento lunches made from rice or small tomato etc. I wanted to do something that not only hadn't been done yet, but that Kidlet would eat! So here we have apple Pokeballs with chocolate accents. Oh yeah.

Kidlet has a a peanut butter sandwich shaped Chikorita with chocolate accents, checkered apple, carrots, cucumber, strawberries, and Pokeball apples.

A little melted chocolate in a pasty bag makes for a pretty cute lunch. Normally I wouldn't put so much sugar in a bento but it is the end of the school year so why not!

To boldly go where no lunch has gone before....

So, if you haven't guessed yet, we're a big bunch of geeks over here :D I took my mom to see the new Star Trek movie for Mother's Day and will be taking the Kidlet shortly as well. It was sooo good. If you haven't seen it yet, go...go quickly. Inspired by the great new film I made a couple of Star Trek bento!

This one I made for my mom. She has cheese shapes on a ham sandwich with grapes, orange, and checkered apple

Kidlet got the communicator on top of a fake ham sandwich with checkerish apple, grapes, and orange slice.

Pokemon Picnic Time!

Today Kidlet had a field day at school and I was a volunteer. Once it was over we got to stay for a picnic lunch with the students. Of course I used this opportunity to use my brand new Pokemon Bread Cutters. I am in love. They were easy to use and oh so cute!

So my bento on the left has a Pikachu sandwich with ham and cheese in the middle. Kidlet has a soy "ham" and cheese Pichu sandwich. We both have checkered apple, orange, cherries, and grapes.
Cookie cutters with an imprint tool can be found in a lot of places and they make adorable sandwiches. This is the first time I have ever used one myself but I am very impressed at how easily I could pull a cute lunch together :D

Hammer time

The weather here has been rainy and unpleasant. As such the Kidlet has been spending more time indoors and we have been playing much more Wii. We unlocked a new character in our Mario Party game, Hammer Bro! Kidlet now loves this character so much that he won't play as any other so it seemed a fitting addition to his lunch!
