I love bento for many reasons. One of them is the eco friendly factor. Eliminating the many baggie approach to kids lunches is just a bonus of bento lunch packing for us. So when EasyLunchBoxes asked me if I'd like to try out their product I was in!
I was skeptical of these containers before I received them. They look just like a set we have from the grocery store so what was the big deal about these? Well, to begin with they are BPA free which is a huge relief to many people worried about packing lunches in plastic containers. They are also extremely durable. I didn't realize how thick and strong they would be. The lid is also very strong which I find to be impressive. We can do series damage to poorly built containers. They are also dishwasher and microwave safe which is wonderful!
I decided the maiden voyage for the EasyLunchBoxes would be in a trip to the zoo!
For Kidlet I packed a peanut butter and jelly sandwich on whole grain oatmeal bread. I cut the sandwich in to three pieces to allow for easy zoo muching. In the side containers are carrots with a dressing container, grapes, and a checkered apple.
For myself I packed a turkey, lettuce, and avocado on a sandwich thin. On the side are carrots with dressing container, grapes, and orange slices.
The bag option for the boxes is very roomy and I was able to fit both of our boxes inside along with freezer packs and juice boxes as well!
Kidlet and I had a nice picnic with our EasyLunchBoxes after hiking around the zoo for the morning. Everything had stayed cold and well protected until lunch time!
These Polar Bears wish they were having their lunch from an EasyLunchBox too! Our zoo has a new polar bear area with a large center focusing on conservation. We saw pictures of different places in Alaska many years ago and pictures of the same places today. The difference was really astonishing. Kidlet became a little teary at the prospect of the Polar Bears not having the climate they need to thrive. This was a good teaching moment for us. We discussed the things we are doing to help the environment and how we can encourage others to do the same. A perfect tie in with our new lunch boxes!
Overall I am very pleased with the EasyLunchBoxes. They are sturdy, have great compartments and fun lid colors! The bag is roomy and kept our food super cool while at the hot zoo.
I know what you're thinking. You love Polar Bears too. And like the Polar Bears you wish you had a set of EasyLunchBoxes too! Well, you're in luck! The lovely Kelly of EasyLunchboxes has offered to give one of you, my lovely readers, a set of them too!

Hi! I've been following your blog and kidlet! LOVE polar bears. I am a kindergarten teacher and pack my lunch everyday, and try to be a good roll model for my students. I use re-usable containers, but nothing as nice as the easy lunch boxes . . . . I'd LOVE to win a set!

Not eligible to enter being international, but had to say, YES I now pack the kids and mine lunches in an eco friendly way. I no longer use plastic wrapping, it is all plastic washable and reusable containers. The kids love it as they say their food tastes better too :)
ReplyDeleteI seem to be the last person to try these lunchboxes. I'd love to win some to try out as I love waste free lunches - see foodfortheboys.blogspot.com for more details....
ReplyDelete:)
Everything we use to pack our lunches are reusable from the little condiment holders to the cloth napkins I include.
ReplyDeleteOn the occasion where we need a "disposable" lunch I try to send things that can easily be wrapped in parchment paper and requires no utensils or condiments (since most disposable condiments are in plastic).
We try to pack our lunches well. My husband gets his in a reusable cotton lunch sack, sandwich in a reusable wrap. Unfortunately, it always ends up slightly squished. I'd love to find a better way.
ReplyDeleteLooks like you had a lot of fun at the zoo! :)
ReplyDeleteI almost always pack a bento for lunch in a Japanese bento box, or I use an eco friendly sandwich wrap (Check out my blog for a review of them).
An Easy Lunch Box would be great for my husband who doesn't really like the super adorable bento boxes that I use :p

ReplyDeleteWell, I'm on maternity leave right now so not packing lunches! Woohoo! :) However, my oldest is starting Kindergarden in the Fall and after following a lot of bento blogs this past year, I plan on bentoing for her! She has picked a Goodbyn for her lunch box but I'd like a few backups...I'm looking at cloth napkins and stuff to go with her bento boxes to reduce waste even more.
ReplyDelete10 We pack lunches in Laptop Lunch boxes, food jars and assorted bento boxes! I'm always on the lookout for more reusable ideas!
ReplyDeleteI now follow your blog!
ReplyDeleteHow much do I love polar bears?
ReplyDeleteI do, but not because they're cute and cuddly. I love them because they're graceful and strong in the water. And yes, the cubs are freaking adoarable!
I forgot to mention I'm following your blog!
ReplyDeleteI just recently started having to pack lunches for daycare (we switched), and after about 2 weeks of ziploc baggies I bought some bento boxes. I still find myself using Glad Press n' Seal though, because the lids are too hard for my kids to open, and more food gets eaten if they can get to it themselves. These look like they'd be easier, and also have fewer separate containers that what we're currently using.
ReplyDeleteI love polar bears because it reminds me of the lovely book "On the night you were born" (The polar bears danced until dawn.) There's a picture of the bears dancing on the cover, which is why polar bears are forever tied up in my memories of reading this book with my daughter.
ReplyDeleteThe kiddos and I are almost waste free when packing lunches- the husband, not so much. I can't get him to bring home reusable containers- they sit at his work get all sorts of funky, or worse- thrown away.
ReplyDeleteWe live in north C-Bus- haven't seen the polar bears yet. We do have the best zoo ever, though, don't we?
I just became a follower!
ReplyDeleteI didn't used to be very eco-friendly. I used a lot of Ziploc bags and bottles that I'd just toss after lunch. Just in the past few months, I've been using the Ziploc tupperware containers that look similar to these, but not as sturdy. I would LOVE some of these! There's just no need to throw everything away when you could just wash it quickly every night!
ReplyDeleteMy good friend and I actually have a running inside joke about polar bears, so now I've just trained myself to spot anything polar bear related. Now we both have tons of polar bear stickers, plates, cards, stuffed animals, etc. They're light and fuzzy and cute - what's not to love? :)

Love polar bears - cute,fluffy,cuddly.
ReplyDeleteI pack my lunch in an eco friendly way - but it contains a lot of little containers :-(

I try to pack as "green" as possible, by using reusable containers. BUT this one looks way cooler!
ReplyDeleteAngie @ mommybee17_at_gmail_dot_com

Sad to say I don't pack my kiddos' lunches in an eco friendly way, but it is because my kids' school requires that everything be disposable in their lunches for "licensing" reasons. Which I think sucks, but what are you going to do? I would love to try these containers for our own outings, though! We are picnicking a lot this summer! PS...I just love your blog...you are so creative!
ReplyDeleteI love polar bears about the "average" amount. My daughter had a ngihtmare about once and kept me up for a few hours afterwards, so I'm currently a little bitter toward them.
ReplyDeleteWe dropped the plastic bag habit a couple of weeks ago, and these lunch kits would come in handy.
ReplyDeleteI pack our lunch in an eco way by reusing bread bags, using stainless steel and plastic containers that can be washed, and by putting things in the same containers to share space.

ReplyDeleteOkay, I like polar bears but they always seem so bored at the zoo. Maybe they should be left in the wild, knwim?
