Clone Trooper

Kidlet and his friends have a very nerdy obsession with Star Wars right now. So much so that not only did he need a Star Wars bento, but he needed to add accessories to my photo....

Clone Trooper is cheese and food color and sits on a homemade roll with more cheese inside. On the side are checkered apple, blackberries, and carrots.
I can't tell if they are trying to attack the bento or keep it safe :P

Hufflepuff

"You might belong in Hufflepuff,
Where they are just and loyal,
Those patient Hufflepuffs are true
And unafraid of toil."
-The Sorting Hat

Today Kidlet has Hufflepuff crest of cheese and food colors on top of a soy ham sandwich. On the side are oranges, grapes, blackberries, and an apple H
You can see the other houses here: Gryffindor , Slytherin , and Ravenclaw
And check out my Rainbow Ribbon Cake made for the Food Network Chefs Cooking Challenge!

Fun is coming!

But it's not here quite yet! Yes, I do think it is fun to tease :) Remember that awesome time that I reviewed some Rachael Ray cookware? Well, another review is coming soon, this one not tied to a giveaway but it will still be fun! I had such a great time with my review for CSN Stores that when they asked me if I would like to do another I was thrilled! They carry a ridiculously wide range of things from kitchen goods to baby cribs . I am secretly very happy to no longer be in need of the latter of those two things.

So stay tuned for something fun and kitcheny :D

Ravenclaw

"Or yet in wise old Ravenclaw,
If you've a ready mind,
Where those of wit and learning,
Will always find their kind."
—The Sorting Hat

Sneaky Slytherin

Slytherin is the house from Harry Potter that Kidlet and I most associate with. While it has gotten a bad rap having some evil wizards associated with it, Slytherin house values ambition, cunning, leadership and resourcefulness. These are good things to us :D

Slytherin logo is food color on cheese and sits on a soy ham sandwich. On the side are blackberries, red apple, and green apple S.
Voting is now happening for the Garden Bento Box Contest which you can find at Hapa Bento

You may also notice that on the right upper side of my blog, there is a silly blue bird. I have given in and have set up a Twitter account. So feel free to Follow bentoforkidlet on Twitter and say hi or mock me mercilessly for having no idea what I am doing :D

Rabbit's Garden

So, there are a lot of reasons I normally don't enter bento contests. The smallest reason being because I never win :P and the biggest being that I get myself all hyped up and have this elaborate plan in my head....and that beautiful bento ends up looking....well like this lol

I have no idea what happened to Rabbit's eye. Poor thing must have gotten too close to Pooh's honey jar and gotten a paw to the face.

And see these? Aren't they cute? Wouldn't they look great labeling the little garden rows in a garden theme bento? Yeah I thought so too. Until I tried to put them in the bento and found them to be HUGE. *headdesk* They look very lovely on my kitchen table....sadly missing their chance at bento fun.
So, I don't think you will see me entering any more contests any time soon :P My complete failure will take some time to get over lol

Go Go Gryffindor!

Harry Potter is another one of those nerdy things the Kidlet and I love! He asked me if I could do Slytherin tomorrow....heh.

Gryffindor symbol made from cheese and food color markers on top of a soy ham sandwich. On the side are grapes, oranges, and an apple lightening bolt.

Adventure Time with Finn and Jake

It appears that Kidlet and I have a new Monday night ritual. Normally he goes to be at 8pm. However, on Monday's Kidlet has a piano lesson at 7 which means we do not get home until almost 8. Being the nice mama that I am, I have conceded to watching Adventure Time with Finn and Jake then going to bed after on Mondays. So Tuesdays will probably mean a lot more bento like this lol

I tried something a little different and used 2 pieces of cheese. One for the characters and one for the background. They are both done with food colors and sit on a peanut butter sandwich. On the side are grapes, strawberries, and orange slices.

Lumpy Space Princess

A new cartoon aired on Monday called Adventure Time with Finn and Jake. After watching it with Kidlet I still cannot decide how I feel about it. It was weird. But the kids are raving about it and find it to be quite exciting!

This is the Lumpy Space Princess. No, I am not making it up! She is food coloring on cheese and sits on a peanut butter sandwich. On the side are carrots, grapes, and a checkered apple.

Stitch is troubled, he needs desserts!

Kidlet has always loved Lilo and Stitch! One of his favorite lines from the movie is "Stitch is troubled, he needs desserts!" So it was perfect that I happened to make funnel cakes today. Check out our funnel cake adventure here .

Stitch is food coloring on cheese and sits on a peanut butter sandwich. Along the side are grapes, checkered apple, and carrots

Bedtime Bear

I found inspiration for this bento in one of Kidlet's coloring books. Bedtime bear looks so cozy on his cloud!

Bedtime Bear is food coloring on cheese on top of a peanut butter sandwich. On the side are grapes, carrots, and checkered apple.

LPS Puppy

Okay, I am now more determined than ever to create a lightbox. It was raining this morning and the gloom did not allow me to get a pretty picture. Hrmph. This looked a lot nicer in person

Today Kidlet gets a Littlest Pet Shop Puppy of cheese and food colors on top of a peanut butter sandwich. On the side are pickles, carrots, grapes, and an apple bone

Boston Bento Finds

Thanks to veganf at Disposable Aardvarks Inc. Kidlet and I found ourselves at Kam Man Asian Marketplace while we were in Boston! I am sad that we didn't get to meet up :( We ended up in the market on Monday afternoon rushing through before getting back on the road!

Kam Man has a great selection of bento boxes for $2.99 and under! The only downside is you must hunt them down! I found bento boxes in at least 3 different sections of the same store! It would be nice if they could organize them a little better. I also wish they had more in the way of accessories.

This is what we brought home (Thanks dad!!) To a non-bentoist this will look like a lot of items, but I know that you my readers and bento loving friends will understand that we used great restraint in only bringing home this much! hehe. My moms reactions to the bags of new bento gear " Really? Good we certainly did need more of that" (insert sarcastic tone)

The other stop we made on our way out of Boston was to go to the Boston Children's Museum where they have transported a real Japanese house that is about 100 years old! It was a lot of fun, Kidlet would have liked to have stayed!

Buckeye Cupcakes

Kidlet had a big school wide festival type thing before Spring Break and there is always a cake walk. This year I decided to make cupcakes to donate to the cause :) I have been dying to try out this idea I had been creating in my mind!

If you are not from Ohio you may not be familiar with the concept of a Buckeye candy. It's a peanut butter center coated in chocolate! Yum! So I thought they would go perfectly on top of peanut butter cupcakes with chocolate frosting.

The ultimate in peanut butter chocolatey goodness. I simply added 1 cup of peanut butter to a Golden Butter Cake Mix. And yes I used canned frosting too. Lazy :)

All boxed up and ready to go!

Goodbye delicious cupcakes!
Buckeye Candy Recipe:
1 (16 oz.) pkg. powdered sugar, sifted
1 1/2 c. creamy peanut butter
1/2 c. butter, softened
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. salt
2 oz. parafin wax
(12 oz.) pkg. semi-sweet chocolate chips
Blend sugar, peanut butter, butter, salt and vanilla until smooth. Shape into 1 inch balls. Melt chocolate chips and paraffin in top of double boiler. Dip balls in chocolate mixture with toothpick until 3/4 covered. Place on waxed paper until set. Cover over hole until smooth. Makes 6 dozen.
