Adventure Time! Mr.Cupcake

Okay, I realize that Mr.Cupcake is not a central character in Adventure Time with Finn and Jake. But...he has a moustache. An amazing one. So he wins :)

Today Kidlet has Mr.Cupcake on a sandwich thin. He is also sitting on top of some Sun Chips. On the side are cherries and oranges. More about our cute new round bento tomorrow!

Bearville Guide 2nd Anniversary Bento

Whew, that is a moutful of a title. I've mentioned before that I am moderator on the site Bearville Guide which is a site for people who love the Build-A-Bear Workshop game of Build-A-Bearville. Woo! This month we celebrate our 2 year anniversary!

I made this celebration bento with all of the characters of the site's Officers. I wonder if you can guess which one is mine! hehe. They sit on top of a sandwich that is covered with nori sheets. On the bottom are cherries, oranges, checkered apples, cantelope, and grapes. I decorated that with a cheese bear and some cheese shapes that say Friends, Parties, Games, and FUN!

Happy Anniversary Bearville Guide! Thanks to Chuck, HamptonBear, Mandy, ColinPink, Mamie, Bear, Fleur, RoRo, and GlitterL for being such amazing Officers and thanks to all of our awesome members who make BGF a pawsome place to be!

Star Wars Picnic bento!

Today Kidlet had Field Day at school and after it was over there was a family picnic for lunch! The perfect time for me to try out the new picnic sized bento I got in Boston!

L-R on top there is broccoli slaw and Star Wars sandwiches with soy ham in the middles. L-R on the bottom there are peanut butter Star Wars sandwiches with pretzels underneath and a container of kiwi, oranges, and cherries. In the little middle compartment there are a few Oreos from a 100 calorie pack.

Broccoli Slaw from Paula's Home Cooking
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~`
Ingredients
* 2 bags (3-ounce) Ramen Noodle Soup in Oriental (other flavors will work, too)
* 3/4 stick butter
* 1/4 cup slivered almonds
* 2 bags (12-ounce) bags broccoli cole slaw (in the bagged salad section of the grocery store)
* 1/4 cup sunflower seeds
* Chopped green onions, for garnish
Dressing Mix:
* 3/4 cup canola oil
* 1/4 cup brown or white sugar
* 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
* 1 ramen noodle seasoning packet
Directions
Put the ramen noodles in a bag and crush them with a rolling pin while melting butter in a large skillet over low/medium heat. Add the crushed noodles and slivered almonds to the skillet and saute, stirring occasionally (keep temperature at low/medium heat). Meanwhile, whisk together all the dressing ingredients in a small bowl. Place the shredded broccoli into bowl and toss with the noodles, almonds, and sunflower seeds. Pour dressing over salad and toss to coat. Garnish with chopped green onions.
Super Mario Fire Flower
I was very sad thinking I would have to miss this month's B.O.M.B challenge since the theme is Flowers. Kidlet likes flowers, but there is a kid in his class who has been tormenting him by calling him girly. We were playing Super Mario Brothers the other day and when I saw these fire and ice flowers and knew they would be perfect! Kidlet said yes they were very manly flowers lol.
Fire Flower is cheese and food coloring marker and sits on top of a peanut butter sandwich. On the side are strawberries, carrots, and blackberries.
Along with my new blog look, I have a button you can grab! This was made by another one of the super talented artists we have over at BearvilleGuide, katiesweet10!
Super Mario Brothers Green Toad
Please excuse my dust, I am still tweaking the new look :) I am a mod on a forum site for Build-A-Bearville fans called Bearville Guide Forums. We have some super talented kids over there who make the most amazing graphics! My banner was made by Cranberry, isn't it cute?
Bento today is a cute green toad on top of a peanut butter sandwich. On the side are strawberries, blackberries, carrots, and a little panda container of sugar for the blackberries.
Star Wars Sandwich Bento!
Thanks to Bridget from Bake at 350 for alerting us to the amazing Star Wars cookie cutters now available at Williams Sonoma! I don't normally get to go to WS because it is at the mall that is farther away. However, last night I had to head to the farther mall to pick up a Race for the Cure shirt for Kidlet's gramma. We ended up in both the LEGO store and WS lol. These cookie cutters are amazing tho....I cannot wait to try making actual cookies with them! The neighbor boys are very excited about these new cookie cutters!
Bento contains 4 Star Wars peanut butter sandwiches. To give the faces color I just lightly rubbed my food coloring maker on to the impression of the cookie cutter and then pressed down. Alongside are carrots, blackberries, and strawberry. Pretzels hide under some of the sandwiches.
Batter Bowl and Nordicware Review
Recently I was contacted by CSN Stores to do a second review for them. Having had a great experience the first time around I said yes of course! This time I reviewed the Reco Batter Bowl and the Nordicware Multi Mini Bundt Pan
This is the Batter Bowl. I first mixed up a double chocolate cake recipe in it and it was the perfect size for one batch. I won't really use it for it's pour spout feature because I found it to be very sloppy. Of course, it's possible that was all user error haha.The bowl is nice and heavy and the handle is invaluable to me! It makes the mixing so much easier!
I was very interested in how these mini bundt pans would work out.Nordicware pans are of a wonderful quality so I know it will last forever, but would anything actually release from it's grip? I followed the instructions for greasing and flouring the pan and much to my suprise, the cakes popped right out! With so many tiny grooves I am still astonished! The pan also washed up amazingly well. A soft sponge was all it took to get inside all of the smaller areas and it took very little effort!
They really turned out beautifully. I covered them with a chocolate glaze and a little powdered sugar and had the neighbor kids come over to taste test. I got 6 very happy nods of approval!
I tested out Blueberry muffins next since muffins were listed as a use for the pan. They also popped out easily and we have decided that somehow, the fancy little shapes make the muffins taste even better! YUM!
Lastly, the pan says it can be used for jello. You won't see any pictures of the horrific explosion that ensued when I decided to test this. I am going to also chalk this one up to a potential user error as I have never tried to make a molded jello before....and I don't think I will again! Hehe!
All in all, my experience with CSN stores and their products was very positive and I had a great time trying out these fun kitchen tools!
Disclaimer: I was given a $50 credit at CSN stores in order to purchase the above items to facilitate my review. No other compensation was given. The opinions expressed above are purely my own.
Cheese Creature Tutorial
I realize that it has been a long time since I posted this, and when I did it was not on this blog! So for anyone who has not yet seen it, here it is. If you think cheese decor for your bento is out of reach, you are wrong! ANYONE can do this! I promise :) It's not so scary!
Okay so you start out with a picture of what you want! In this case it is a Pokemon.
Next you cut around the outside of the picture and place it on a piece of cheese. Trace around the outline with food color markers.
Remove the paper and this is what you will have
Now you're going to start to de-construct the pattern. Cut away the feet and tops of the ears and place pattern back on the cheese
Trace around the new areas with your food color marker and you will have this.
Now we can cut out the smaller details like the eyes, mouth and other arm. Trace around these new areas. This will give you your outline!
Now that you have the outline done it's time to start coloring!
Don't worry if you color outside of the lines a litte because we're going to cut the shape out!
Now you can use a sharp knife to cut out the shape. I use a serrated steak knife but you can use whatever kind you are comfortable with
Voila! A cute cheese creature for your next bento lunch! And you can save the cheese scraps for salads or sandwiches
Darth Maul
It was pouring rain again! So my pic is a little....funky. I hate it when the light won't do what I tell it to! Kidlet requested Darth Maul for his bento today.
Darth Maul is cheese with food colors on top of a soy ham sandwich. On the side are grapes, carrots, checkered apple, and pretzels
Lady Rainicorn
So, it's Monday once again and tonight Kidlet will stay up 30 extra minutes to watch Adventure Time with Finn and Jake. The show is ridiculous but fun and it has become a nice tradition for us to spend a little extra time together. Today's bento features Lady Rainicorn who speaks Korean and is a rainbow....and unicorn lol.
Lady Rainicorn is cheese and food colors on top of a soy ham sandwich. On the side are checkered apple, grapes, and carrots.
And here is the lovely Mother's Day present that I got from Kidlet. He wrote me a sweet poem at school and they typed them on the computer and made a recipe card holder :D so nice!
2 Star Wars Lunches
I am a little behind on posting lunches! Yikes! So I will post two since one is technically not a bento anyway. The first is another Star Wars symbol. Kidlet has been hard at work at this Star Wars Lego set...he said it is a Republic fighter something. I took the symbol from it for his bento yesterday
Star Wars symbol of cheese and food colors on top of a soy ham sandwich. Green beans, checkered apple, and oranges on the side.
Next is a field trip lunch from today. I wasn't going to make a cheese picture but Kidlet made a sad puppy face and asked for crossed lightsabers.
Field trip lunch *had to be completely disposable....ickick* is soy ham sandwich with cheese lightsabers, carrots, checkered apple, grapes, and a Simply GoGurt which is a new, no yucky stuff added GoGurt
And of course it had to be packed in a brown paper sack *triple ick* so I added an R2D2 to make it fun :)
Boys Day Bento
Happy Boys Day! Today in Japan is now called Children's Day. It used to be called Boys Day and we still think it should be so, since girls have their own day ;) It's only fair!
For lunch Kidlet has cheese carp on a peanut butter sandwich. On the side are green beans, checkered apple, oranges, and pretzels.
Here is Kidlet's Boys Day display!
Regular Lunch
I had a very cute lunch planned for today until I got to the fridge and found all of my white cheese gone! So today Kidlet gets what he refers to as "Regular Lunch". The character lunches being called "Fancy Lunch" :D
Kidlet has half of a Morningstar Farms soy riblet on top of rice. On the side are checkered apple, grapes, oranges, and blackberries
